Denver weather: Snow chances return for a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day

DENVER (KDVR) — An incoming storm system arrives late Tuesday in the Colorado mountains and into the Denver weather forecast Wednesday through Friday, with rain and snow likely. Thursday will be a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day.

According to the Pinpoint Weather, Colorado’s Most Accurate Forecast, the exact track of the incoming storm will determine how much snow falls along the Front Range and in metro Denver. Right now, the timing of the snow looks like it will impact the Thursday morning drive, especially in areas across the city and areas to the south and west of downtown.

Weather tonight: Mountain snow, cold

There will be light mountain snow showers Monday night with light accumulation over the highest peaks. Temperatures will be cold in the high country with overnight lows in the teens and 20s.

Expect chilly temperatures over the Eastern Plains. Many places will be in the 30s and above freezing.

Weather tomorrow: Another mild day

The mountains will see another period of snow showers late on Tuesday. There will be plenty of sunshine along the Front Range and in metro Denver early on Tuesday followed by passing clouds late in the afternoon.

It will be another mild day with afternoon highs reaching the 60s and 70s, which is about 10-15 degrees above normal for this time of year.

Looking ahead: Rain and snow, accumulation likely

The Pinpoint Weather team is tracking the chance for rain and snow arriving Wednesday and lasting until early Friday. The coldest day looks to be Thursday, which will also have the best chance for accumulating snow.

There are already travel advisories in the mountains and foothills west of Denver. Snow totals could exceed 5-10 inches in those areas. The totals in the metro are still in question because of the exact track of the storm and how quickly the rain turns to snow.

Be prepared for changing road conditions late Wednesday into early Friday. There is a possibility that metro Denver could measure up to 6 inches from this storm, but there will be more details in the coming days.

The weekend looks dry with lots of melting. Temperatures will be cool with fresh snow on the ground and should turn mild again early next week as the snow melts away.
