Denver weather: Snow arrives in the metro Thursday evening

DENVER (KDVR) — Winter weather moves into Colorado on Thursday with snow and sleet over the plains early on and then snow in the foothills and Front Range later in the evening in the Denver weather forecast.

There will be snow, rain and sleet over the Eastern Plains on Thursday morning, meaning winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories are in effect until 5 a.m. Friday.

This could be wet and heavy snow, and even ice accumulation is possible.

Denver will continue to see clouds increase with cooler highs in the lower 40s.

Snow moves into the foothills through Thursday afternoon and then into the Front Range by the evening hours. Denver will get two rounds of snow, the first is Thursday evening, and the second is early Friday morning.

Weather tonight: Snow showers

Light snow lingers overnight with cloudy skies and chilly lows in the middle 20s.

Roads could become slushy overnight along the Front Range with better chances for accumulation in the foothills.

Winter weather advisories are in effect for the foothills from 11 a.m. on Thursday through 5 p.m. Friday as the snow moves in. The area could see 5-11 inches of snow.

Looking ahead: Warming through the weekend

On Friday, the light snow will taper off through the late morning hours with snow wrapping up in the late afternoon in the foothills.

Highs on Friday will be just above freezing in the middle 30s with partial clearing later in the day.

Denver looks like it will get a wet inch of snow with improving conditions in the afternoon.

The Palmer Divide could see 1-3 inches. The foothills could pick up 5-11 inches.

There could also be a pocket of snow in the plains that reaches 2-7 inches but, that includes Thursday’s snowfall as well.

The weekend looks more comfortable with plenty of sunshine.

Highs on Saturday are seasonal in the lower 50s and then Denver will top out in the low 60s on Sunday.

The mild weather lingers through the start of next week with sunny skies and 60s. Wednesday adds more clouds back into the area with highs in the upper 50s and the chance for some spotty rain showers.
