Demolition on Cimarron Plaza continues

May 7—The hum of excavators filled the air as truck load after truck load left the plaza.

Where Pleasant Pools once was, a tall mound of dirt sat in its place. Scraps of metal formed small mountains in other areas across the parking lot.

Demolition continues at Cimarron Plaza as Stillwater Public Schools prepares for the construction of its new high school. Since the week of April 15, the demolition crew from MK Excavation has been collecting and hauling debris from the parking lot of the former shopping mall.

The company was hired to complete the demolition at a bid of $686,000 in March.

The timeline construction of the new Stillwater High School, which has a planned completion date of summer 2026, has been going according to schedule so far, said Barry Fuxa, SPS communications coordinator.

"(There have been) no surprises," Fuxa said.

Fuxa said if everything continues on schedule, Phase I and II of the demolition portion would be completed by August 1.

Phase I and II will include demolishing buildings on the southern and central area of the lot. Phase I of the new high school was estimated at $66 million.

The final phase of demolition on the north side is slated for completion by October 1, after the last businesses have moved out and SPS is able to move the IT department to its new location with Operations and Educational Services.
