Deltona motorcyclist killed after running red light, hitting tree Saturday, FHP reports

A 71-year-old Deltona man was killed when he ran a red light and crashed his speeding motorcycle into a tree in Volusia County Saturday evening near Temple Baptist Church in Enterprise, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP reported the man was riding a 2008 Triumph Motorcycle westbound on DeBary Avenue approaching Main Street in the outside lane. Several witnesses reported the man was speeding and ran the red light at the intersection at around 7:04 p.m.

The man swerved to the right to avoid colliding with Main Street traffic and ran off the roadway, colliding with a curb- and then a traffic sign eventually striking a tree.

He was pronounced dead on the scene. The crash is under investigation. The man was not wearing a helmet, according to FHP.
