Delphi hearings canceled this week

May 20—DELPHI — The three days of hearings set to occur this week in the case against accused Delphi murder suspect Richard Allen have now been canceled, according to an order sent out Monday by the presiding judge.

Judge Frances Gull's order comes on the heels of a 42-page motion sent to the court last week by defense attorneys Brad Rozzi and Andrew Baldwin, which asked for Gull to be disqualified from presiding over the case.

That motion by the defense was the second attempt to disqualify Gull, a few months after Gull herself disqualified Rozzi and Baldwin for what she called "gross negligence" after alleged crime scene photos were leaked to members of the media.

And because Gull reportedly needs time to review and rule on the defense's latest motion, the court is "compelled to cancel the pretrial hearing" set for May 21-23 inside Carroll Circuit Court, the judge wrote in Monday's order.

It's unclear when Gull will rule on the motion for disqualification or when this week's hearings — which were set to cover nearly a dozen different motions recently requested by the defense and the prosecution — will now take place.

It was Feb. 14, 2017, when the bodies of Abigail Williams and Liberty German were located along the banks of Deer Creek near the Monon High Bridge area after being dropped off the day before but not returning to their pick-up location.

Five years later, on Oct. 31, 2022, investigators announced they had arrested Allen on two felony counts of murder.

During an interview with police, Allen reportedly stated he was on the bridge the day the girls went missing, but he did not see them.
