Dell Rapids' Jack Henry named Argus Leader Student of the Week

Our Student of the Week winner for the week of May 17, and the last for this school year, is Jack Henry, of Dell Rapids High School.

Henry was nominated by their school to participate in the last week in our newest initiative, celebrating high school students across Lincoln and Minnehaha counties. The winner is usually determined by a poll with votes from the public between Monday and Thursday, but Henry was the only nomination received this week as school districts wrap up for the year.

"Jack is a member of the National Honor Society, is the student body Co-president, and was recently named the Quarrier Athlete of the Year and Quarrier of the Year," Principal Drew Bunkers said of his nomination. "He excels both in and out of the classroom and has received numerous athletic accolades. Above all, Jack serves as a positive leader in our school and a mentor for the younger students in our school system."

We'll be continuing this Student of the Week poll when the new year picks up this fall to recognize such students, and you get to help determine who we should recognize once again.

We think of all the nominated students as winners, and your participation allowed us to showcase their work this year.

We can't wait to take what we learned from the trial of this initiative and apply it in a better way next year, one that may allow for some prizes down the line. Maybe it's a gift card, or a bit of money for school supplies. Maybe it's even a scholarship.

We're still determining the best course of action, but your participation helped shape that. Until next year, thanks for all your help!

In the meantime, congratulations, Henry!
