Dell says that it completed deal for Credant Technologies

Dell has completed its acquisition of data-protection company Credant Technologies.

Terms of the deal, which was first announced Tuesday, were not released Thursday.

The Round Rock, Texas-based computer maker said that acquiring Credant will strengthen security for its customers and help them protect their data. It also aims to reduce security costs, Dell said.

Credant was founded in 2001 and is headquartered in Addison, Texas. Dell has a long-standing joint-development partnership with the company and uses its technology. The company's specialty is protecting and encrypting user and corporate data.

Shares of Dell Inc. were unchanged before the stock market opened Thursday. Shares closed at $10.49 Wednesday, down 7 cents from the day before.
