Delaware County man indicted on multiple felony charges for alleged sexual assault

A Delaware County man potentially faces decades in prison after his indictment on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from an alleged sexual assault.

A Delaware County grand jury indicted Duane L. Gardepe, 61, of Masonville, on felony charges of first-degree attempted rape, second-degree kidnapping, first-degree criminal sexual act, third-degree aggravated sexual abuse, first-degree sexual abuse, and first-degree unlawful imprisonment.

Gardepe was also indicted for second-degree menacing and two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, both misdemeanors.

On May 9, Gardepe allegedly sexually assaulted the victim at gunpoint while refusing to allow her to leave his residence, according to the Delaware County District Attorney's Office.

Masonville is along Route 8, just south of Sydney.

If convicted, Gardepe faces up to 25 years in prison for each of the Class B felonies, criminal sexual act and kidnapping, along with up to 20 years of post-release supervision.

The case was investigated by New York State Police. Gardepe is in custody at the Delaware County jail without bail.
