Decatur Fire Departments giving away smoke detectors

Nov. 7—In the aftermath of a deadly fire Friday, Decatur Fire & Rescue is trying to raise awareness that it has free smoke detectors available and can even install them if necessary.

The Fire Department's smoke detectors are supplied by Alabama Fire College. All that's required is the resident fills out a brief questionnaire that the Fire College uses for information purposes only.

Anyone interested in a smoke detector should contact Lt. Brandon Sivley at 256-341-4860.

The fire Friday killed one man, seriously injured a woman airlifted to UAB Hospital and destroyed a Fourth Avenue Southeast home. Two men who escaped the fire were treated at Decatur Morgan Hospital and released.
