2 former employees arrested for fraud after Decatur City Schools finds irregular charges

DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — Two former Decatur City Schools (DCS) employees have been arrested for fraud after the school system and police investigated irregular charges were found on the system’s Fuelman fleet card.

Former DCS employees who resigned in April of 2021, Samuel Kieran Booker and Dy-Kerius Rushuan Allen, are charged with fraudulent use of credit or debit card.

According to a release from DCS, the financial department opened an internal investigation into the incident and said that the investigation led them to believe the incident involved two former maintenance employees.

DCS told the police department about the potential fraud and provided them with supporting documents related to the situation. The school system said it has taken proactive steps to prevent unauthorized access and charges but cannot comment further on the situation as DPD is investigating.

The Decatur Police Department (DPD) said after an investigation, it determined the two men had been using gas cards assigned to Decatur City Schools’ vehicles since May of 2021.

“The total amount of the reported unauthorized transactions completed with the gas cards since May of 2021 was in excess of $40,000.00,” DPD said.

Booker turned himself into DPD on March 8. He was charged with one count of fraudulent use of credit or debit card and booked into the Morgan County Jail with bond set at $1,000.

Allen turned himself into the department and is charged with two counts of fraudulent use of credit or debit card. He was booked into the Morgan County Jail on a $2,000 bond.

“The case has been forwarded to the Morgan County District Attorney’s Office for the consideration of additional charges for Booker and Allen,” police added.
