Decatur brewery wins Gold in 2024 World Beer Cup

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — On Wednesday, Decatur’s Golden Fox Brewing earned Gold in the world’s most prestigious beer competition, the World Beer Cup.

The award was given for one of 110 beer-style categories: American-Style Imperial Stout beer. Golden Fox “topped off” 59 competing entries with their winning beverage, the Furious Fox. The beverage is described as an ale that is black in color and packed with earthy flavors, including fig molasses, oak chocolate, dark fruits and light roast coffee.

“Owner/Brewer Andrew Boyd continues to strive for perfection in every beer he creates,” said Jim Fox, Owner of Golden Fox Brewing.

The World Beer Cup, often referred to as “The Olympics of Beer,” was established in 1996 as a way to celebrate the art and science of brewing. This year, the competition was held at The Venetian in Las Vegas. A total of 9,300 entries from more than 2,000 breweries across 50 countries were evaluated by a panel of 280 judges from across the globe.

Golden Fox Brewing specializes in bringing traditional beer styles from around the world straight to to Decatur — making them perfect contenders for the World Beer Cup.
