Parents of dead newborn charged with reckless endangerments pending autopsy

The parents of a 1-month-old Staten Island boy who died early Saturday were initially charged with reckless endangerment, pending a Medical Examiner’s autopsy, police said.

Cops said they were trying to determine if the infant, who had a visible injury on his left arm, had been assaulted.

Police responding to a 911 call from the panicked mother found the baby unconscious about 6:45 a.m. in an apartment at NYCHA’s West Brighton Houses on Broadway near Henderson Ave.

EMS rushed the infant to Richmond University Medical Center, but the child couldn’t be saved.

As the baby was being taken to the hospital, “visible signs of trauma to the left arm” could be seen, cops said.

The dead boy’s parents— 36-year-old Jenice Lightfoot and 38-year-old Leonard Thompson— were arrested Saturday evening and both initially charged with reckless endangerment, pending autopsy results, police sources said.
