Death in Paradise season 13 episode five spoilers follow.

Death in Paradise has teased the exciting return of a key character in a preview for the next episode of season 13.

Last week's episode (March 3) saw the sad exit of fan-favourite character Officer Marlon Pryce (Tahj Miles), who left for Jamaica to look after his sister.

But things move on quickly in the sunny BBC crime drama, and a preview for this Sunday's episode (March 10) has teased that an "old face" will be making an appearance on the Caribbean island.

It remains to be seen who will be returning to the show, but the intriguing synopsis for episode six reads, "an old face returns to St Marie, but isn't met with open arms from everyone", hinting that it won't necessarily be a happy reunion.

There is a vacant position on the team following Marlon's departure, so this could be how an old character makes their return – but who could it be?

New images released show Commissioner Selwyn Patterson looking out to the sea, and it could be that he is waiting to welcome back a familiar face to St Marie.

Elsewhere in the upcoming episode, the team are faced with a tricky case that seems to have a host of twists and turns.

The description reads: "The team are confounded when a tourist is stabbed whilst travelling down one floor, all alone, in a hotel lift. It transpires that the victim was severely ill and coming to St Marie had been on her bucket list. But the case takes an even stranger turn when the team discover the victim's written bucket list, and travelling to the Caribbean is nowhere to be found!

"As the team start to investigate the victim's loved ones, they discover a family with numerous skeletons in their closets – whilst an ominous woman watches everything unfold from the shadows."

Guest stars for the new episode include impressionist Ronni Ancona, Ali Ariaie (The Great), John Gordon Sinclair (Traces) and Gabrielle Glaister (Coronation Street).

New episodes of Death in Paradise are airing on Sundays at 9pm on BBC One. The main show and its spin-off, Beyond Paradise, both air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer.
