Death in Paradise has been known to baffle viewers on occasion with its grisly murder plots, but the new series features one "intense" storyline that even unsettled the cast!

This time around, though, it's not necessarily a murder that raised objections. Josephine Jobert revealed to Digital Spy exclusively that she was worried about exploring her character DS Florence Cassell's love life.

"This year, I love my storyline, for sure," she teased. "I've had so many new things to play. She has a love story, a beautiful one, everything goes very fast.

"When the producer called me, a few months before we started filming, he told me about the story and I really did not want to have a love story, because I love the fact that she's a girl but she's really into her work and she's serious and she's an action girl.

"So when he told me, 'OK, this year you're going to have a boyfriend', I was like, 'Oh no, please no!' but then he told me what was going to happen with that boyfriend in the story, and I was like, 'That's brilliant, let's go for it!' I love it."

Uh oh, that doesn't sound too promising! Let's just hope that the boyfriend doesn't run afoul of Pico the Police Dog, or Florence will be in for some serious heartbreak.

Death in Paradise returns to BBC One on Thursday, January 10 at 9pm, with Shyko Amos joining the cast to replace Danny John-Jules on the force.
