The Saint Marie PD has lost another trusted officer after the latest shocking Death in Paradise episode.

Thursday's second half of a rare two-parter bid farewell to long-time cast member Joséphine Jobert, whose character Florence Cassell seemed to be clinging to life in the final moments of last week's episode.

Florence had become suspicious that her new fiancé Patrice (Leemore Marrett Jr.) had got in way over his head in a murder investigation involving the death of family friend Tiana, but appeared to be shot when she tracked her man to an abandoned warehouse.

But in a shocking revelation this week, it was actually her fiancé Patrice who'd been killed after getting caught up in a murder plot orchestrated by Tiana's long-lost father's business associate Frances Compton (Saskia Reeves).

The tragic turn of events was enough to convince Florence to leave Saint Marie for good.

"Saint Marie’s a small island, and I don’t think there’s anywhere here that doesn’t have a memory of Patrice in it," she explained.

Florence chose to depart for Martinique, and then continue traveling to "who knows where" while she cleared her head.

Viewers were certainly sad to see Joséphine Jobert following Danny John-Jules in leaving the series:

Lest anyone think this is all some elaborate storyline, Jobert did later tell fans on Twitter that she'd done her "time on the show" and was ready to move on to other projects.

"Guys, I’m going to go to bed and watch a Netflix," she promised. "I’ll answer your messages tomorrow but until then, I just want to say thank you to every one of you for all your support and your kindness and for being there, simply. I’m going to miss you every Thursday.

"I’ll explain all of this in a few days. Don’t’ worry. DIP had been an amazing experience that I’ll never forget. And you made it possible because of all the love you brought to the show, years after years. Have a good night ❤️❤️ see you tomorrow."

Death in Paradise continues next Thursday (February 21) at 9pm on BBC One.
