Deadly head-on crash closes US 40 at Berthoud Pass

DENVER (KDVR) — A deadly crash prompted a closure Friday of U.S. Highway 40 at Berthoud Pass.

Colorado State Patrol out of Golden confirmed that a head-on crash resulted in one person dead and two others transported to the hospital.

U.S. 40 was closed in both directions at Berthoud Pass from Mile Point 257 to Mile Point 233.

A spokesperson for CSP told FOX31 that the highway was closed at 3:56 p.m. It happened reopened before 9 p.m.

The cause of the crash was unknown.

Drivers were recommended to use an alternate route via westbound Interstate 70 to Silverthorne and Highway 9 north to U.S. 40.
