Deadly crash in Manchester claims two lives

May 18—Two people were killed in a collision between a motorcycle and a car Friday night in Manchester, police said in a news release.

Officers responded shortly after 8 p.m. to reports of a crash in the area of Elm and Pearl streets involving a car and a motorcycle.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a 43-year-old man from Manchester had attempted to make a U-turn in his sedan while traveling south near 1205 Elm St. During the turn, the car collided with a motorcycle traveling north, according to the release.

The motorcycle was carrying a 34-year-old male operator and a 38-year-old female passenger, both of Dunbarton, police said. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the operator succumbed to his injuries after being taken to a local hospital, according to the release.

The operator of the car was uninjured, police said.

Authorities had not released the names of the people involved as of midday Saturday.
