Deadline nears for 2nd Philadelphia casino license

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The deadline to apply for the second casino license in Philadelphia is a day away and it appears at least six groups are interested.

Applications are due to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board by the close of business Thursday. Philadelphia officials say six groups have already submitted "local impact reports."

Those include a proposal by real estate developer Bart Blatstein, who wants to put a casino at the site of the former headquarters of The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News.

Others include a plan by casino magnate Steve Wynn, a proposal by Penn National Gaming Inc. and one proposed for the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The other two call for a casino downtown and one by the sports stadiums.

After the deadline, the board will hold public hearings.
