Deadline day for Washington octopus sign
Walla Walla, Wash., toy store fighting latest deadline to remove oversize octopus sign
WALLA WALLA, Wash. (AP) -- The city of Walla Walla, Wash., says Wednesday is the deadline for a toy store owner to remove on oversize octopus sign or the city will paint it over and send him the bill.
Inland Octopus owner Bob Catsiff has lost every court decision in the sign code dispute that went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. The mural of a purple octopus on the store front was painted in September 2010 without a permit.
Catsiff told the Union-Bulletin (http://bit.ly/XGtMq6 ) he's continuing his fight by arguing there are other sign code violations and the city has engaged in selective enforcement against him.
City Manager Nabiel Shawa says he hopes Catsiff brings his sign into compliance. Fines for the sign code violation now total about $89,000.
