UPDATE: Missing Danville man ID’d as body found in lake

Update at 4:42 p.m.

VERMILION COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that a man reported missing from Danville is the person whose body was found in Bar Lake Friday morning.

Officials said County Coroner Jane McFadden identified the body as 33-year-old Wes Kelley following his recovery from the water. An autopsy is pending to identify the cause of death.

Kelley was reported missing by his family on May 13, three days after last having contact with him. He failed to pick up his daughters for the weekend, which family said was out-of-character.

The case remains under investigation by the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department and Coroner’s Office.


VERMILION COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Vermilion County authorities are investigating after a dead body was found in Bar Lake Friday morning.

The body was discovered near Mallard Point Drive at 10:20 a.m. A WCIA reporter at the scene said the body was laying face-down at the water’s edge.

A search and rescue boat from the Sheriff’s Department pulled the body from the water. Authorities also had a drone in the air as they were searching the area and taking photos. They left the scene shortly before 4 p.m.
