DC police arrest second man in Mother’s Day murder of 10-year-old girl

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced that a second man was arrested for the Mother’s Day shooting that killed 10-year-old Arianna Davis.

10-year-old girl shot in car dies

Officers responded to the sounds of gunshots at about 9:14 p.m. on May 14, 2023, in the 3700 block of Hayes St., NE. Soon after, Davis was brought to a DC Fire and EMS station with gunshot wound injuries.

She was taken to a hospital, where she died on May 17, 2023.

MPD said Davis was riding as a passenger in a car with her family when she was struck by a stray bullet. Since the shooting, community members have come forward with tips and video evidence, leading detectives to identify suspects.

On Sept. 18, 2023, a 19-year-old from Southeast D.C. was arrested and charged with first-degree murder while armed.

On Jan. 23, 2024, 19-year-old Dallas McKinney of Southeast D.C., was transported from DC Jail to the Homicide Branch where he was also charged with first-degree murder while armed.

Anyone with information is asked to call MPD at (202) 727-9099 or text the department’s tip line at 50411. A total reward of up to $45,000 is offered to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved.
