DC fire officials say manhole cover blown off in fire

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — DC Fire and EMS said that a manhole cover was blown off in a fire on Wednesday.

In a post on the X platform just after 1:40 p.m., officials said that crews were at 5th Street and New York Avenue NW.

Smoke was visible coming from the manhole. No injuries were reported, and officials said there was no danger to any structures.

Man shot, critically hurt in Southeast DC

Responders established a safety zone around the area, closing the intersection. Pepco was requested to respond.
