Daytime closures for Connecticut Avenue in Joplin

JOPLIN, Mo. — Officials with the City of Joplin say motorists traveling through the city should be aware of a daytime closure on Connecticut Avenue, just south of 38th Street.

The closure will be in effect from 9 a.m., beginning April 30, until dusk each day, requiring drivers to seek alternative north/south routes such as Main Street or Range Line Road. Connecticut Avenue will reopen nightly from dusk until 9 a.m., the City of Joplin says.

This temporary closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of stormwater pipes beneath Connecticut Avenue. The City of Joplin says signage and message boards will be installed to notify drivers of the closure. While work is anticipated to continue daily throughout the week, scheduling may be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

The ongoing project to widen Connecticut Avenue between 32nd Street and the Interstate 44 bridge is funded through the 2014 Capital Improvement Sales Tax.
