Daylight stabbing in North Vancouver sends man to hospital
A North Vancouver man is recovering in the hospital after being attacked by a knife-wielding individual on Saturday afternoon.
RCMP reported that officers responded to reports of a stabbing near the Raven Pub in Deep Cove around 4 p.m. PT.
Const. Mansoor Sahak, of the North Vancouver RCMP, informed CBC News the suspect is currently in custody.
"Charges have not been laid and, at this point, the investigation is in its early stages," Sahak stated.
Police have confirmed the scene has been cleared and there are no traffic disruptions in the area.
Mayor speaks to witnesses
Shortly after the incident, Mayor of the District of North Vancouver Mike Little, who resides a few blocks away, visited the scene to speak with neighbours and witnesses.
Based on his conversations with witnesses, Little said the attacker appeared to be in "distress" and began assaulting a motorcyclist.
He was told the situation could have been far worse if not for the motorcyclist's safety gear and quick actions of a bystander.
"When the motorcyclist retreated from the attacker, a quick-thinking individual opened his car door, allowing the motorcyclist to take refuge while the attacker continued banging on the vehicle," Little recounted.
While the RCMP has not confirmed whether the attack was targeted, witnesses believe it appeared to be random.
