Actor David Spade has openly expressed his grief over the death of his late sister-in-law fashion designer Kate Spade in a new interview.

When asked how his family was coping following Spade’s suicide on June 5, the actor became emotional, telling the host of Good Morning America: “As good as we can. It’s been very tough, obviously.”

Referring to the thousands of tributes to his late sister-in-law as “sweet,” and a clear sign of the impact she’d had on the fashion world, Spade also shared a touching memory of the iconic designer.

Smiling as he spoke, Spade recalled how any woman he was with would dress differently if they knew “Katie” and her husband Andy Spade would also be in attendance.

According to Spade, Kate always knew what the women were doing and would compliment them on their appearance.

“She was such a beautiful, lovely, great spirit and obviously will be missed. I’ll start bawling,” the actor continued.

In addition to sharing a moving tribute to the late fashion icon on Instagram after her passing, where he remembered how she used to make him “laugh so hard,” the Father of the Year actor also donated to a mental health advocacy group in honour of his sister-in-law.

The Kate Spade Foundation also announced it will be donating $1m to suicide prevention and mental health awareness causes following its founder’s death.
