When Joanna Strober was around 47, she stopped sleeping. While losing sleep is a common symptom of perimenopause, she first had to go to multiple providers, including driving 45 minutes out of San Francisco to pay $750 out of pocket, to get that diagnosis and proper treatment. "That feeling of wow, I've really been suffering unnecessarily for the past year really stuck with me," Strober said on a recent episode of TechCrunch's Found podcast.

Amazon may be scaling back its AI-powered Just Walk Out checkout-free tech in its stores in favor of smart shopping carts, but Walmart-owned Sam's Club says it's turning to AI to speed up its own exit technology. Instead of requiring store staff to check members' purchases against their receipts when leaving the store, Sam's Club customers who pay either at a register or through the Scan & Go mobile app can now walk out of the store without having their purchases double-checked. The technology, unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, has now been deployed at over 120 clubs across the U.S., which is 20% of the total number of Sam's Club locations.
Samsung Electronics said on Tuesday that its operating profit surged more than 930% in the first quarter of 2024, driven by soaring demand for its servers, memory chips and storage used in AI applications. The company, which struggled in 2023 as the macroeconomic slowdown hurt demand for its products, said its memory chip business returned to profitability, and prices continued to rise, thanks to solid demand for DRAM and NAND chips, high-density SSDs and servers. Samsung said total revenue increased 12.8% to KRW 71.2 trillion ($52.2 billion) in the quarter from a year earlier, while net profit rose 330% to KRW 6.75 trillion ($4.88 billion) compared to a year earlier.

Last week when a security researcher said he could easily obtain the precise location from any one of the millions of users of a widely used phone-tracking app, we had to see it for ourselves. Eric Daigle, a computer science and economics student at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, found the vulnerabilities in the tracking app iSharing as part of an investigation into the security of location-tracking apps. Daigle said the bugs allowed anyone using the app to access anyone else's coordinates, even if the user wasn't actively sharing their location data with anybody else.
