Daughter says Abdessalam Yassine, leader of Morocco's largest opposition movement, dies at 84
RABAT, Morocco - The daughter of the founder of Morocco's most powerful religious opposition movement says that her father has died aged 84.
Nadia Yassine told the Associated Press that her Abdessalem Yassine died Thursday morning.
Yassine founded Al Adl wal Ihsan, or the Justice and Spirituality movement. Its hundreds of thousands of members are highly critical of Morocco's monarchy, disputing the king's quasi-religious title, Commander of the Faithful.
The group for a while joined the pro-democracy February 20 movement in 2011, adding its manpower to the demonstrations that rocked the country during the Arab Spring.
With the election victory of a legal Islamist party in November, the group however has taken a much lower profile.
