Datawatch buying Panopticon Software in all-stock deal valued at about $31.4 million

CHELMSFORD, Mass. (AP) -- Datawatch is buying real-time visual data software company Panopticon Software AB in an all-stock deal valued at about $31.4 million.

Datawatch, which is based in Chelmsford, Mass., provides information optimization products that help businesses analyze and manage data

Privately held Panopticon is based in Sweden. Its customers include Pfizer, Citigroup, HSBC and Novartis.

Both companies' boards unanimously approved the deal.

The transaction is expected to close by the end of September. It still needs the approval of Datawatch Corp. shareholders.

Datawatch's lightly-traded stock gained $1.20, or 8.2 percent, to $15.80 in Monday afternoon trading. The shares have traded in a 52-week range of $10.69 to $20.83.
