Area schools dismissing early due to rain, flooding forecast

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Area schools are releasing early on Wednesday due to projected rainfall and flooding.

Dare County Public Schools will implement an early dismissal schedule on Wednesday due to increased rain and the possibility of coastal flooding.

All after-school activities and after-school enrichment programs are also canceled, the school district announced.

“If families have concerns or inquiries regarding student transportation, they should reach out directly to their student’s school. Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”

There’s currently a flood watch in effect for Dare County through Wednesday night, with 2-4 inches of rainfall expected.

Accomack County Public Schools will dismiss all students and 10 month staff two hours early on Wednesday due to bad road conditions.

Northampton County Public Schools is also dismissing students two hours early, due to poor road conditions.

Gates County Schools have canceled all after-school activities for Wednesday, due to impending weather.
