DAR honors seven county students with Good Citizen awards

May 9—Seven students from Anderson County were honored Wednesday with Good Citizen Student awards by the William Finley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The recipients were Madilyn Mills of Cayuga High School, Presley Estes of Elkhart High School, Juliana Carrizales of Neches High School, Sophie Coe of Palestine High School, Nathan James Marr of Slocum High School, Shannon Jackson of Westwood High School and Elizabeth Pence of UT-Tyler University Academy Palestine.

According to DAR member Kathy Stites, these students were chosen for having demonstrated the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.

A special ceremony to recognize these recipients was held Wednesday morning in the Robinson building of the First Presbyterian Church in Palestine. Each student received a certificate, pin and monetary gift.

"The Good Citizen DAR Program was founded in 1934 and over 6,500 Chapters participate nationwide," Stites said. "This award continues to be one of the most recognized services of the DAR."
