Danville police host H.E.A.R.T Walk following shooting death of 25-year-old

DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — “Coming together, not to gather.” That’s what one walk in the City of Danville is all about. On Monday, March 4, the Danville Police Department is heading to the community for its Heal and Engage After Recent Trauma (H.E.A.R.T) Walk following a deadly shooting over the weekend.

On March 3, officers responded to the 600 block of Cabell Street where 25-year-old De’Wayne Ross, of Danville, was found shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is the first homicide in the City of Danville in 2024.

Following these events, the police department will kick off the H.E.A.R.T Walk at 4 p.m. at the intersection of Berryman Avenue and Cabell Street.

Police said the goal of these walks is to express to the community the department cares about their well-being and wants to help neighbors feel safe, validated, and heard.

The homicide remains under investigation.
