Danville firefighters adjusting to outdoor heat

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Danville firefighters have battled three different house fires in the last three days, but they are also fighting the heat outside of the burning buildings.

Four firefighters have been treated for heat exhaustion since Saturday. This includes one firefighter who had a brief stint in the hospital Monday night. He’s okay now.

Fire Captain Ryan Allison said his department is still acclimating to the warmer weather.

“Getting them out into the weather, you see, right now the station is pretty well empty. We’ve got members out doing training,” he said. “They’re out doing drills and just trying to get them acclimated back to this type of weather and the conditions that we encounter.”

Allison said the emphasis has been on hydration for the entire department as temperatures rise.
