Double D has been playing the pub landlord since 2013 and has often said that the role has been the making of him.

And EE has loved him back, two NTA gongs and a shed load of fan love have marked him one of the most popular Walfordites of all time.

Danny told The Guardian: “No one would touch me before I got offered the role of Mick. I couldn’t really get any work. Mick Carter has become my life and EastEnders has saved me.”

Before his EE rebirth, DD was best known for some dodgy film roles, including Run For Your Wife - which also starred Sarah Harding and Denise Van Outen and made £602 on it’s opening weekend.

He went on to say: “I know what it’s like to be hot and people loving your work. But I also know what it’s like for people to mock you and think you’re a joke.”

Danny has won the hearts of millions of EastEnders fans and has tackled some hard-hitting storylines such as Mick’s wife, Linda, being raped by his brother. And discovering his sister is really his mum. And saving his rapey brother from drowning after he tried to ruin his wedding day.

He was also highly praised for emotional scenes when his son Johnny, then played by Sam Strike, came out to him.

And let’s not forget the pink dressing gown of joy.

Danny added: “People are snotty about soaps. I don’t care. I’m grateful every day now.”

So are we Dan, so are we.
