Daniel Snyder vindicated? Well, sort of.

It was hinted at, even suggested that Daniel Snyder, the owner of the Washington Redskins was somehow vindicated in the ‘Redskins‘ name saga. After a week of media shaming, it is more reasonable to say that zero winners emerge after the latest poll from the Washington Post.

Except, maybe one.

A week ago I offered a lengthy complaint against the World Wide Leader in Sports, ESPN, for their on-air shaming of the Washington Redskins and their owner Daniel Snyder. In my opinion, and inspiration for the piece, I suggest that the poll offered overwhelming clarity on an issue that to date only offered one side of a story.

However, the aftermath did just the opposite.

A minority of Native Americans found fault with what is a very compelling and reasonable poll. Based on those results, it suggests that at the very least, those of us who are not Native Americans should take a cue from those whom it was assumed would be most offended, and seek some perspective.

That perspective?

That the name ‘Redskins’ is not something that is of a significant concern to those polled.

However, in this media culture, perspective is in short supply.

Enter Daniel Snyder, who despite wide ridicule, stood by his proclamation that he would not change the name of his Washington football team.

Snyder is not necessarily a victor in this debate, but as this past week has shown, short of him, who is?

That said, Daniel Snyder is an unwitting recipient of some good news unexpected.

Who’d of thought 90% – NINETY PERCENT, would find agreement with Snyder on this subject?

But on this, he does.

As obviously revolting as it is to a very liberal, left leaning media hungry for a victory on this topic, the rebuke was loud and definitive.

Should Snyder take a victory lap?

No.

But it is a subject best relegated to the principal’s it most affects – or doesn’t. And shame on an overbearing media who insists on interjecting itself into a discussion it is desperate to provide influence on.

I’m no fan of Daniel Snyder. But here he can, and should reclaim some semblance of affirmation that this poll is no outlier.

At the very least, of the things that concern 90% of Native Americans, the name ‘Redskins’ doesn’t resonate as something racist or debilitating as the minority opinion, OR the media would suggest.

Lastly, and in their own words via this poll, those same American are willing to talk about a name that a vast majority of American, AND the media, should take caution in offering an unwanted opinion on.
