‘Dangerous’: Manhunt for 2 shooters, getaway drivers after 4 shot in the Bronx

THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – Police are searching for two gunmen and their getaway drivers after a man was killed and three people were injured in a Bronx intersection Tuesday, according to the NYPD.

The shooters, who were sitting on the backs of scooters, sprayed 10 rounds into the busy intersection of East Mount Eden and Townsend avenues around 6:15 p.m., police said.

A 23-year-old man, a 31-year-old man and a 37-year-old man were all shot in the leg, according to authorities. A 29-year-old man, identified by police as Miguel Doleo, was shot in the chest and killed.

Illegal scooters may have been at play during the drive-by shooting, according to the NYPD. At least 9,500 bikes have been taken off the streets across New York City in 2024, NYPD statistics showed.

In the Bronx specifically, 2,500 scooters, dirtbikes and ATVs have been confiscated since January. There have also been 1,300 arrests this year related to using illegal scooters in crimes, police said.

The people who live in the area told PIX11 News that they’ve had enough.

“It’s overwhelming when you’re out here just trying to make it to or from a location with your children, just picking them up from school, dropping them off to school, it’s dangerous,” said Lee, who lives in the neighborhood.

The NYPD will be bringing back community response teams in the area following the shooting, according to Deputy Commissioner of Operations Kaz Daughtry.

The suspects took off on their scooters toward the Cross Bronx Expressway, according to authorities. One person was taken into custody, but released after it was determined they weren’t involved in the shooting, police said.

In the 44th Precinct, where the shooting took place, there have been 36 gun arrests and 18 guns taken off the streets this past month alone, according to authorities.
