‘Dangerous’ escapee captured in Texas after cutting ankle monitor

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The man accused of throwing his ankle monitor into Bayou Sauvage, escaping house arrest, has been captured.
According to Assured Supervised Accountability Program (ASAP) Cofounder and Director of Enforcement Matthew Dennis, 25-year-old Darwin Gonzales-Munoz was captured in Austin, Texas after allegedly cutting off his ankle monitor on May 8.

On that Wednesday, at 9:05 a.m., ASAP received an alert of Gonzales-Munoz traveling near 13565 Chef Menteur Highway.
The last ping of his monitoring device showed his location at the Madere Marsh Boardwalk. ASAP officials report Gonzales-Munoz threw the monitor into the bayou and continued to travel.
On Tuesday, May 21, Dennis said Gonzales-Munoz was taken into custody in Austin and will travel to Houston before being extradited to New Orleans.

He was originally charged with domestic abuse battery, domestic abuse battery – strangulation, theft, simple criminal damage to property and domestic abuse battery – aggravated assault.
Gonzales-Munoz’s alleged victim, Ximena Michelle Hernandez, was also taken into custody. She will also be taken to Houston on a warrant, according to Dennis.
