DAMAGE SURVEY: EF2 Tornado strikes Knox County on April 27

KNOX COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) — The National Weather Service has released the damage survey for the tornado that struck Knox County on April 27.

JUST IN: Confirmed Tornado spotted in Knox City

The EF2 tornado traveled 15 miles with peak winds of 110-115 mph. Thankfully, no fatalities or injuries were reported.

The tornado touched down at 3:06 p.m. a mile southwest of Knox City and ended at 3:45 p.m. in Rhineland, an unincorporated community in Knox County. It damaged homes, snapped power poles, and resulted in tree damage before ultimately dissipating.

On April 27, at least 27 tornadoes occurred in the NWS Norman forecast area. These tornadoes produced rainfall ranging from 4 to 8.75 inches, hail up to three inches in diameter, and wind gusts up to 60 mph.

This is the 29th tornado to hit Knox County since 1950, with the second most recent being an EF3 on April 27, 2021.
