Damage at Dzhankoy airfield revealed through satellite imagery post-strike

Satellite imagery from Planet Labs has revealed significant damage to Russian military equipment at the Dzhankoy airfield in Crimea, according to a report by Ukrainian Radio Svoboda's Schemes project on May 2.

The destruction was caused by Ukrainian forces using ATACMS missiles during a strike on April 30.

The strike likely damaged the Russian S-300/S-400 air defense system, including launchers and radar systems.

A satellite image from April 27 confirms the presence of the mentioned system at the site. The photos suggest that one of the S-300/S-400 launchers suffered damage in the attack, while others were relocated from the area.

"The impacted airfield is among the largest bases for Russian helicopters, serving as a crucial military transport hub for equipment, ammunition, and troop movements," said aviation expert Anatoliy Khrapchynskyi.

In an early morning operation on April 30, Ukraine targeted the Russian military airfield in Dzhankoy. Ukrainian authorities have not confirmed the specifics of the attack yet, which is believed to have utilized ballistic or cruise missiles.

Explosions were heard in occupied Simferopol, Crimea, overnight on April 30, Astra Telegram channel reported.

The strike has inflicted significant damages and casualties on Russian military positions, the VChK-OGPU project said on May 2.

In total, 11 Russian soldiers were injured in the attack.
