Dallesport, Washington fire spreads to 20 acres, homes threatened

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A multi-acre fire that began Thursday afternoon triggered Level 3 “Go Now” evacuations in Dallesport, Washington.

The evacuations were lifted around 5:30 p.m.

Officials told KOIN 6 News early Thursday evening that the fire on Tidyman Road started at a sawmill near Dallesport and burned about four acres.

At the time, they said no additional structures were threatened and that drivers should avoid the area.

Just after 8 p.m., another update from Washington state officials indicated that the fire had spread to 20 acres and that homes were threatened. Deputy State Fire Marshal Esther Hernandez released a statement updating the public on the condition of the fire, saying in part:

“The Tidyman Road Fire started on May 16, 2024, at approximately 2:45 p.m. This fire is estimated at 20 acres and currently involves a lumber mill and wildland urban interface area. Homes, infrastructure, and cultural values are threatened. There are no evacuations in effect at this time. The fire cause is currently under investigation.”
