Dallas Cowboys Rustle Up Big NFL ‘Thursday Night Football’ Numbers

Big night for NFL and CW on Thursday.

The Thursday Night Football game, featuring the Dallas Cowboys at the Minnesota Vikings, carried on NBC and the NFL Network, averaged a combined household 14.1/23 from 8:30-11:30 p.m. ET in the 56 metered markets, not including digital data. NBC dominated the night in both metered-market households and adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with Local People Meters. That makes it the best Thursday Night Football game this season on any network in metered-market households, excluding September 8’s NFL Kickoff game.

That 14.1 is a 52% spike from NBC’s Thursday Night Football debut on November 17 (9.3/16 for Saints-Panthers game).

In these preliminary results, NBC ranks #1 for the night among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49, total viewers and every key other key category in the fast-affiliate ratings, even prior to time-zone adjustment and the addition of NFL Network viewers.

Against the game, other network’s lineups listed.

Fox’s Rosewood and Pitch matched series lows of 0.7 each.

CBS’s Big Bang Theory (3.1) matched a season low.

ABC’s A Charlie Brown Christmas (3.1) hit its lowest rating to date for a first telecast of the season, while the network’s premiere of The Great American Baking Show (1.0 from 9-11 PM) tumbled 17% from the debut of last year’s version, The Great Holiday Baking Show (1.2 on a Monday, November 30, from 10-11 PM).

Notable exception: CW’s DC’s Legends of Tomorrow concluded this week’s four-part crossover – Supergirl on Monday (1.1), The Flash on Tuesday (1.5), Arrow on Wednesday (1.3), catapulting LofT on Thurs to a big 83% jump (1.1) compared to the 0.6 of most recent broadcast on November 17 and handily topping its previous season high 0.7 rating scored on October 20.
Most watched (3.33mil) and highest rated DC’s Legends of Tomorrow ever in A18-34: 1.0/4. The end result: CW’s most watched Thursday in four years.
