Daley, Gillespie: It’s Going to be Close
The message from both the Obama and Romney camps was consistent this morning: the election is going to be close.
Bill Daley, an Obama campaign co-chair and former White House chief of staff, said he thought the president is “doing fine” and in “good shape.” But to those who worry how tight the race has gotten, he said that it was expected.
“There are lots of people running around, sort of setting their hair on fire to say this is a close race,” he said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. “It is a close race and the one person who has known that from the beginning is the president. I don't know what all the big news is when people talk about polls and say this race has tightened. It's always going to tighten.”
Ed Gillespie, a Romney senior advisor, echoed Daley, saying that a divided Washington and current economic conditions have given the former Massachusetts governor an opportunity to come ahead.
“I think it's close,” he said on CBS’s This Morning. “I think this is going to be a close contest throughout. The country's pretty evenly divided.”
A new Quinnipiac poll that was released on Tuesday morning shows President Obama will a slight lead over his Republican challenger in Pennsylvania, but Romney still remains close in this poll and several others nationwide.
