Daleville man draws 30-year sentence for molesting convictions

ANDERSON, Ind. — A Daleville man convicted of sexually abusing a juvenile has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Walter Lee Myers III, 48, had pleaded guilty in Madison Circuit Court 3 to two counts of child molesting, a Level 1 felony carrying up to 40 years in prison.

In recent days, Judge Andrew Hopper imposed a 39-year sentence — 30 years of incarceration followed by nine years on probation.

Under the terms of a plea agreement, a third account of molesting was dismissed.

The Daleville man had been accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a child in her early teens in 2021.

Anderson police and the Indiana Department of Child Services conducted related investigations. The first assault took place in an Anderson motel, according to an affidavit.

The victim said Myers routinely contacted her through Snapchat and Facebook Messenger. She also said that he gave her vapes and cigarettes after one of the sexual encounters,

The molesting charges were filed against Myers in August 2022. However, he was not arrested until that December.

As part of a plea bargain, the Daleville resident also pleaded guilty to possession of meth and nonsupport of a dependent child in other Circuit Court 3 cases. The deal called for dismissal of related charges of strangulation, domestic battery and possession of paraphernalia.

According to court records, Myers had earlier convictions for crimes including burglary, failure to return to lawful detention, false informing, maintaining a common nuisance, residential entry, theft and three convictions for possession of meth.
