Daily Digit: Study finds nearly all women have experienced sexual harassment or assault

Daily Digit is the story behind the numbers that make our world work. Today we’re looking at sexual harassment and assault. A study found that 81% of women and 43% of men reported experiencing some form of sexual harassment and/or assault during their lifetime. For women, verbal harassment was most common, followed by unwelcome touching. Men’s experiences followed a similar pattern, but happened less often. For women, the most common place for harassment was in public, followed by their workplace. Most men and women reported that their first sexual harassment or assault experience happened when they were 14 to 17 years old.
