Daily Digit: One-third of Americans have felt the urge to protest

Daily Digit is the story behind the numbers that make our world work. Today we’re looking at protests in the U.S. In a recent Gallup poll, more than one-third — 36% — of Americans said they have felt the urge to protest. That rate is much higher among Democrats, liberals, college graduates and women. When Gallup asked what issues provoked people to protest, women’s rights was the biggest issue. Immigration and gun control tied for second place. And there’s a three-way tie for third: the president, civil rights and environmental issues. As America becomes more polarized, protests are likely to increase.
