Dad’s Adorable Illustrations of Daughter’s Hilarious Quotes

Earlier this year, father Martin Bruckner was sitting at the dinner table with his family when his wife turned to their 2-year-old daughter Harper, who was playing with her food, and said, “Please don’t put spaghetti between your toes.”

“I said ‘Did you just say that? Is this what our lives have become?'” the 37-year-old art director from Omaha, Nebraska, tells Yahoo Parenting. Later that night, Bruckner was giving little Harper a bath when he heard himself ask her, “Did you drop your cheese in the tub again?”

That’s when Bruckner had the idea to start illustrating some of the crazy things said to, and by, his 2-year-old. “I thought I would do a few for Mother’s Day to give to my wife,” he says. “But we say so many hilarious things that I kept doing more and more.”

Eventually, Bruckner started a Facebook page and a now-popular Tumblr blog to showcase his drawings, which he sells on Etsy. He also creates custom illustrations for parents using their own crazy quotes ($20 for a print, $18 for a high-resolution digital image).

In September, when Harper turned 3, Bruckner compiled the drawings into a personal family book, Please Don’t Put Spaghetti Between Your Toes: Things Said To — And By — A 2-Year-Old. “This was originally an idea to document my daughter’s life since we never did a baby book,” he says. “My idea is to do one book for when she’s two, one when she turns three, and on and on until she stops saying funny things —which may be never.” Here are the family's funniest musings.
