Dad of homicide suspect charged with witness taunting

LEHIGHTON BOROUGH, CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say the father of a man accused of committing a homicide while wearing a ghost face mask has been arrested for taunting a witness with the mask.

According to the Lehighton Borough Police, on May 14 officers were called to the 200 block of Carbon Street for a woman reporting a harassment incident.

The woman claimed her neighbor, Francis Moyer, 68, of Lehighton who was recently released from prison for harassing neighbors, was staring at her by his doorway and made the woman feel uncomfortable, police stated.

Officers said the woman informed them she was a witness to a recent homicide that involved Moyer’s son Zak Russel Moyer, 30, of Lehighton, and Moyer was instructed to have no contact with her.

As stated in the affidavit, while on the call with police, the woman said Moyer was waving a ghost mask in the window of his home towards the victim. Police stated the mask Moyer was waving was used by Zak Moyer during the homicide of 59-year-old Edward Whitehead Jr. and this was an act of intimidation of a witness.

Moyer was arrested and the mask was located in a dining room a few feet away from the window, officers said.

Investigators have charged Moyer with intimidation of witness.
