Dad of Conway woman found dead in car with gunshot wound killed in 2016 shooting

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A woman found dead inside her car in Horry County is the second member of her family to die under violent circumstances in recent years.

Katelyn Bennett, 33, of Conway, was found dead in a car with a gunshot wound after the car crashed into a ditch Wednesday afternoon along Gore Road and Highway 905. Horry County authorities have begun a death investigation and are awaiting the results of an autopsy.

The Horry County Coroner’s Office confirmed to News13 on Friday that Bennett’s father, 54-year-old David John Bennett, was shot and killed in November 2016. Authorities said he was shot once in the chest and died while he was sitting behind the wheel of his taxi. That shooting happened in the area of Dillon Street and Grainger Road in Conway.

Two people were later charged and convicted in David Bennett’s killing.

Tranique Prinze Livingston was sentenced to 30 years in prison in March 2019 after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter under an Alford plea. He had been charged with murder. Under an Alford Plea, the person does not admit guilt but acknowledges that a jury would likely convict them based on the evidence.

Lloyd Edward Pertelle III, who was 18 at the time David Bennett was killed, was charged with accessory after the fact to felony murder. He was sentenced to one to six years in prison but that since was suspended to five years of probation, according to Horry County court records.

At the time of her father’s death, Katelyn Bennett told News13 she was still in shock over losing her father.

“I can’t believe I’m here right now doing this, It hits me, it comes and goes. I don’t know how I’m going to do this now. “I just want my daddy back. That’s what I want. My sister came from New Hampshire. She hasn’t seen him in six years, and she saw him for the first time, cold.”

This is a developing story. Count on News13 for updates.
