This Dad's Honest Post About Why He Keeps His Daughter On Leash Is Going Viral

From Woman's Day

Though they may be unconventional, many modern parents feel that child harnesses are essential for the safety of their little ones-including one parenting blogger who recently took to social media to express his frustration with moms and dads who shame those who rely on the tool.

Oregon dad and blogger Clint Edwards used a leash to keep his 3-year-old daughter, Aspen, by his side when they visited a local farmers' market last week, according to People. During their shopping trip, the father received an alarming number of dirty looks from strangers at the market, which prompted him to defend the leash in a viral post shared on Facebook.

"We were at the farmers' market. No shame. I put this kid on a leash," he wrote on Facebook. "I can't, for the life of me, keep her from moving. Her curiosity is incredible, and for only having a 12-inch stride, she moves faster than any Olympian." It may be unconventional, but this dad claims its essential for his family.

The 34-year-old blogger defended the harness by emphasizing the protection and peace of mind it provides. "The fact is, if I didn't put Aspen on a leash while at amusement parks, the zoo, a crowded mall, or the farmers' market, she'd be the lost child announced over the intercom," the blogger wrote. "She's a wild child, and this thing has already kept her out of the road and from sticking her hand in an ice cream machine, along with keeping me sane."

Clint's not worried about his daughter-or what other parents think. "The reality is she'll calm down," he wrote. "But until that day comes, I'm going to do whatever I can to keep her out of danger, even if it means a leash."

While the father of three has received a handful of negative comments on the viral post, most parents support the idea. "People have been like, 'Thank you for sharing, we have to do this too to keep our kids safe!'" Clint told People. "And I'll keep doing it until she grows out of it, she's a wild child!"
