DA: 27-year-old life sentenced for 2020 stabbing in Dinuba

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Office of the District Attorney in Tulare announced on Monday, that Department 10 of the Tulare County Superior Court sentenced 27-year-old Marc Brinseno, to life in prison for a 2020 stabbing murder of a man near Dinuba.

On Sep. 27, 2020, the Tulare County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area of Avenue 400 near Road 104 regarding a male subject allegedly passed out in a pickup, according to the DA.

Deputies say when they arrived, they discovered the man deceased and a knife protruding from his lower abdomen. Deputies say they were able to obtain latent finger and palm prints from the vehicle. A witness account stated two men had fled from the scene in a black Dodge Charger.

The DA says on Sep. 30, a palm print left at the scene was identified as Marc Briseno. Two days later on Oct. 1, Brinseno was questioned by law enforcement and admitted that he and his roommate, co-defendant 25-year-old Cristian Miranda, followed the victim from Tulare to the outskirts of Dinuba for over 40 minutes, and were involved in a physical altercation with the victim. During this Brinseno stabbed and killed the victim. Detectives learned that the men intended to rob the victim.

The DA says at the trial on Feb. 1, 2024, a jury found Brinseno guilty of second-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon. Co-defendant Miranda pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in January 2022 and was sentenced to six years in prison.

According to current California sentencing laws, Brinseno must serve 15 years before being considered for parole.
