D.C. Is Unhappy with the Celebrities Who Are Happy to Be in D.C.

D.C. and Hollywood, the yin and yang of American culture, are having another cosmic spat. You see, while nothing gets D.C. going like a movie star who deigns to hang out with lobbyists and policy directors, there's a new report that D.C. can't stomach the celebrities who like them too much. Case in point: The New Republic's Noreen Malone embedded with the D.C. gossip press corps and finds some serious eye-rolling over the over-abundance of Rosario Dawson at Beltway events.

Dawson's crime is that, as the co-founder of Voto Latino, she seems to enjoy hanging around the D.C. press corps. So much so that Politico, for one, named her one of 50 Politicos to watch. But Malone talked to the D.C. gossip columnists, who have particularly nasty things to say about the star of Sin City. "She’s always very nice, but we’re sick of having to write the same story over and over again about her organization," said Nikki Schwab of Red Alert Politics. Another, unnamed columnist told Malone: "Like, no one cares about Rosario Dawson's opinion on the Keystone Pipeline." Yet, another added: "I really do think of Rosario Dawson as the worst because she is just ... not that famous." In Malone's piece, the columnists also have not-so-nice things to say about other celebrities who like D.C. including America Ferrera, Gary Sinise, Mandy Moore, and Alexis Bledel.

But not everyone hates Dawson—or at least not to her face. A regular attendee of the White House Correspondents' Dinner and its galaxy of events, the social media evidence only shows a trail of adoration from the D.C. crowd.

Poor D.C.: they can only love the celebrities they can't have.
